My favorite short stories:

I like these because i could either relate or they were interesting.

Angel Levine:
I like the connect to job, and i liked that he never completely gave up on his faith.

Paul's Case:
I just got attached to the kid right away, and anything about Carnegie Hall I like! :)

The Hills like white elephants:
I can just relate.

I dont like these short stories:

A Worn Path:
I hate how the old women is perceived. I feel for her and i think that people should be more humble toward the elderly.

The Lady With the Dog
First of all the dog is Dimitri. Second Adultery. Can we say wrong.... I don't agree with this moral choice. Get an divorce already. Its a covenant that they were breaking. Some one needs to crack down and i guess it is me.

The Birthmark:
Common this scientist was just awful. Why do women over the centuries find there Identity in Men instead of the MAN ! Jesus Christ! He is the one who devines us. I also did not like the ending.

that's all folks :)

The Man who was almost a man

I think the conflict in the story were both minor and a big deal.
Man vs. Man ( all the workers, his parents, and his boss)
Man vs. Self (i think he panicked when he killed jenny and did not know what to do)
Man vs. Society
Man vs. nature

I think he handled his conflicts poorly. A gun does not give you power. All though it may in his mind, it actually made him weaker. He did not own up to his faults right away like a man. He was a silly immature boy.

A Worn Path

Do I think she is in a right state of mind?

Well no, i think she is on the side of Kooky, but that is just one side of things. I think also it could just be old age. She is a Granny for goodness sake. Give her a break. I dont know if the grandson is alive or already past on but either way she is trying to cope. Maybe she just is at a breaking point. Either way people right her off and it is not neccesary.

A Spinster's Tale

I think that Elizabeth has a right to be the scared little girl like person she is but i also do think there was an change. I think the change was from her being this little child to actually being and adult like person. I think when she realized that Mr. Speed was harmless things clicked.

The Lady With the Dog

Just so it is noted i don't particularly like this story.

He was so upset because maybe he was so in love with anna that he did not have anyone talking about her. I have mixed feelings about them being in love but that is my opinion. I think maybe there was an possibility that he was genuinely alone and missed her probably.

Chrysanthemums

What is the conflict...

I think the conflict was man vs society. At this time of which the pots man was in work was scares.
He would even allow a vulnerable man fall at his feet to get work.
I think there was also man vs nature. The man did not really care about the flowers at the end or he would have thrown them out.
Also i think there is man vs self. At the end of the story Elisa was struggling with herself to keep strong but she had been broken.

Desiree's Baby

What type of irony appears in the final paragraph? What is the effect of that irony?

I think that is it definitely situational irony.
We all, the audience knew that there she did not do what they were accusing her of. I think the mans mixed race would have not been a surprise as much if this situational irony was not there. It just help the ending product of this story over whelm us.

Everything That Rises Must Coverge

Which characters out of the story are most sympathetic to you? What about the character(s) makes him/her sympathetic?

I think of this question and the first thing i think is Julian.
I know he has to respect his mother but sheesh. She is his mother after all but i dont know who is worst honestly the snippy comments she gives or his jerkish comments back. I have a similar situation with my biological mother. It stinks. But hey what doest the bible ask us to do.... To honor your mother and father. I guess he is trying to do that the best he can.

Good Country People

The phrase "good country people" from the title is repeated a number of times throughout the story. What is the effect of this repetition? How does this phrase become ironic in the story?

I feel that the author used repetition of "good country people" because the audience or the readers held on this idea that this young man was good. It was the point of this style of writing. To have twist and surprise the readers. In the last few paragraphs there was the twist and i think the irony of us the readers knowing that this man was not a good country person after all was quite interesting.

Group Story

The Chrysanthemums

We (Myself, Adam, Tali and Michael) have chosen this piece because basically out of the two choices this was the most interesting. I have read this piece previous so i am excited about our choice.
