"The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin

Kate Chopin is one of my favorite authors because of here unique way to show the emotion and lack there of, of women in earlier centuries.

What do you think is the larger meaning or message of this story?

Well in most of Kate Chopin's stories, "The Story of an Hour", "The Awakening", women's roles are the typical domestic and biological role of a women. There is always a need or DESIRE to break free.

In this short story i feel that the women {wife} is misread as full of grief by here observers when the news that her husband had died. But in all actuality she was relieved. You see her looking out of the window and seeing freedom. If one understands that before she just felt like a secluded wife, then the death of her keeper would be ultimate freedom. In the end when the good but terrible news of her husband being alive came about, her spirit died and became once again chained to damnation.

Basically my understanding of this short story is that "one can still your freedom even your soul, but in due season it will cease". I believe that her death was just another door to freedom. Or simply the hour of which she believed her husband was dead she was free.
